Affiliate disclosure

BuffHaven is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you.
BuffHaven is published by BuffHaven Media. This page explains how our affiliate links work in full. It goes with our privacy policy, cookie policy and terms of use.
How affiliate links work
An affiliate link is an ordinary link to a retailer or storefront with a tracking code attached that identifies BuffHaven as the referrer. If you follow one and go on to buy something, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale. The price you pay is exactly the same as it would be otherwise, and the retailer — not you — pays the commission. Following the link may cause the retailer to store a referral cookie on their own domain so the sale is credited to us; we never receive your name, payment details or the contents of your basket.
How to identify them
Affiliate and other commercial outbound links carry rel="sponsored nofollow". Where a whole page or section is built around shopping recommendations, we say so near the top.
Programmes we participate in
Our affiliate programmes may include the Amazon Associates Programme and other retailer and game-publisher affiliate schemes (for example digital game stores and PC hardware retailers). The specific programmes change over time as retailers and our coverage change. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
How it affects our reviews
It doesn't. Scores, rankings, "best of" picks and recommendations are decided by the editorial team on the merits, before any commercial link is added, and are never altered for commercial reasons. We add affiliate links only to products and games we would recommend anyway, and we will link to a retailer even when there is no affiliate programme available. No advertiser or affiliate partner gets to see, approve or influence a review before it is published.
Advertising versus affiliate
These are two separate things. Advertising is display creative served by third-party ad partners (which may include Google AdSense / Ad Exchange) and is labelled as advertising; those partners may set their own cookies, as described in our cookie policy. Affiliate links are editorial links we place in our own content. Neither one buys influence over our editorial judgement.
Plain statement
In plain terms, and in the spirit of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's guidance on endorsements: BuffHaven has a financial relationship with some of the retailers we link to, and we may be compensated when you click those links and make a purchase. We disclose this because you deserve to know, and because our recommendations only mean something if you can trust that money isn't behind them.
